My strategy while writing any essay for my French as foreign language exam was to first list down all the verbs that I can think of related to the essay question in front of me. I would do this for about 5 minutes and then start formulating certain sentences where I could use 2-3 verbs without wasting any words as the limit is only 140 words. I would suggest that you could practice this method as it was very effective for me since I was able to use around 25-30 verbs every time in my writing while sticking to the word limit. I remember that once I was able to use 5 words in one sentence only and this skill will only come with practicing writing essays and ALWAYS checking the essay after you have got it marked to see how you could have joined certain sentences together or added more detail using verbs that you are familiar with to increase your verb count. Since the minimum verb requirement is 18, I would always suggest students to write around 23-24 verbs as in case some are incorrect, you should not lose marks for not reaching the desired verb count.
